MB is a nationally-recognized homebrewer and BJCP-certified judge. (She's featured in the June 7, 1996 USA Today article on homebrewing and was profiled for a CNN feature on women and homebrewing.) A technical consultant for Brewers Resource, a reviewer for Brewing Techniques, and an Instructor for the American Craftbrewers Academy, MB has published articles in Zymurgy, Brewing Techniques, and Inside Mead. In addition, she has developed a variety of yeast strains for the brewing industry and simplified kits for yeast culturing, as well as a number of other products to improve fermentation performance. When she is not brewing, MB is a biochemist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA with expertise in molecular and cellular biology, protein biochemistry, and cancer research. In 1995 MB married another master brewer, Steve Casselman, at the Anchor Brewery.
